Group page vs. Fan page?

So you're looking to advertise on Facebook.. where do you start? There are a couple options.

According to whatis.com, a Facebook group is a place for an organization or business to promote activities. Users must join the group in order to interact and join discussions. Groups have the advantage of sending direct messages to members, and can also restrict who has access to their information. Being part of a group is similar to being part of a club.

A fan page is a public profile for use by business, celebrities, and the like. It is dedicated to giving information and updates, allowing "followers" to interact and redistribute information. The benefit of a fan page is that they have the ability to post information directly to their "fan's" newsfeed, something a group is not able to do.

Based on your goals, pick the best situation for your person or organization. However, make sure to follow the guidelines Facebook has set for a page or a group.
