Developing your brand

Social media is everywhere. Not only is it on the web, but it's now conveniently where ever you are - on your smartphone. With so many tools, platforms, and apps, your organization knows no bounds in promoting your brand.

1. Promotion. I've talked before about not promoting too much. There is a fine line - it's not all about you, it's about your customers, too. However, you do want to drive some traffic to your business.

2. Make connections. Social media is all about networking, build yours. Engaging with your network makes them more apt to listen and pay attention to your brand.

3. Self expression. (Or brand expression.) Social media allows you the ability to make yourself be seen exactly as you want. Use that to attract the type of network you want to promote yourself.

Don't forget to listen. I know, you're probably tired of that word by now. But if you're going to be a part of all these platforms, you have to pay attention to them, too.
Paying attention to everyone else out there also helps you model yourself and determine what works as opposed to what doesn't.

A group I think is doing a fantastic job at marketing is a local Christian band called Adeline. Their website will take you to their Twitter, and you can also find them on Facebook. They are consistently engaging, as well as letting their fans know about any upcoming events and trying to get their brand out there. No, they might not be famous (yet!), but social media is making that easier for them.
What makes Adeline different? They're real. They know their fans, and the make conversation. They care about what you want. Get to know them.
